Meet the Anesthesiologist
Gordon Ondra, M.D.
One of the most vital members of our practice is Dr.
Gordon Ondra, our staff anesthesiologist. Dr. Ondra
is responsible for providing safe anesthesia during
surgery, and has performed anesthesia for over 18,000
patients in the past 15 years.
Born in New York, Dr. Ondra became interested in medicine
during high school.
After graduating from Lehigh University with his degree
in Electrical Engineering, he received his medical degree
from Finch University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical
School, completed his internship training in general
surgery from the University of Illinois and continued
with anesthesiology training at Illinois Masonic Medical
Center. Before beginning practice as an anesthesiologist,
he performed an anesthesia fellowship at the University
of California Los Angeles.
Dr. Ondra is Board Certified by both the American Board
of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine,
and is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists,
the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, the American
College of Forensic Examiners and the American Academy
of Pain Management.
Residing in Florida since 1988, he holds the distinction
of being appointed to the Florida Board of Medicine
by Governor Bush, and is currently serving a four-year
term as patient safety advocate. As a representative
for the citizens of Florida, he is responsible for monitoring
safety issues, reviewing complaints against physicians
and recommending disciplinary action when needed.
After performing hospital-based anesthesia for 12 years,
he considers the past 2 years in plastic surgery to
be the most rewarding. According to Dr. Ondra, private
practice affords him the opportunity to provide each
patient 100% of his attention, without the typical distractions
often found in a hospital environment.
In his spare time, he is an aviation enthusiast and
rides his Harley Davidson as much as possible!
