What is the Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and a Mini Tummy Tuck?
Both a traditional tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and a mini tummy tuck can eliminate excess skin, remove fat, tighten underlying abdominal muscles, and give your stomach a more toned, athletic appearance. However, there are a few key distinctions between these two popular body contouring procedures.
With a traditional tummy tuck, Dr. James Matas is able to target and remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen. By making one incision across the hips and another around the navel, Dr. Matas can access and tighten the muscles from the pubic area to just below the chest. The remaining skin is then pulled taut over the stomach, creating a slimmer silhouette.
A mini tummy tuck targets just the lower abdomen and can yield good results for women with loose skin or stretched abdominal muscles located below the navel. Since this procedure requires only one incision low between the hips, the recovery time for this procedure tends to be significantly abbreviated. A mini tummy tuck is ideal for patients who are happy with the appearance of their abdomen above the navel but still struggle with excess skin, fat, and muscle laxity in the lower region.
