Benefits of Microneedling with the MD Needle Pen®
The many skin rejuvenating benefits of microneedling have been well-established in clinical studies, making it an effective choice for patients interested in treating signs of aging and scar tissue with minimal downtime. The MD Needle Pen® is a superior choice for microneedling applications, as it makes treatment sessions easy to perform and can deliver maximum benefit to each patient.
Microneedling treatments with the MD Needle Pen® can improve the appearance of several common skin concerns of the face and body, including:
- Sun damage
- Mild to moderate wrinkles
- Large pores
- Uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation
- Stretch marks
- Uneven skin texture
- Skin laxity
By creating micro-fine punctures throughout the surface of each treatment area, the MD Needle Pen® can trigger the deeper layers of skin to initiate natural renewal processes. The stimulated tissue immediately sets to work healing each tiny perforation, which can eventually result in rejuvenation of the entire treatment area. During the healing period, new capillaries enhance circulation and the dermis produces new collagen and elastin fibers, which can tighten skin, improve tone, increase firmness, fade areas of dark pigmentation, diminish scars, strengthen skin, and smooth wrinkles. Additionally, topical skin serums (containing hyaluronic acid, regenerative platelet rich plasma [PRP], and other active ingredients) that are applied directly before needling can deeply penetrate the skin and further enhance the quality of results.
Combining Microneedling and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Collected from you own blood, platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a purified substance which contains powerful regenerative properties. The skin-healing growth factors present in PRP stimulate collagen production and skin rejuvenation, and when combined with MD Needle Pen® microneedling treatment, PRP can further boost potential skin improvement and maximize results. Before microneedling begins, PRP is administered topically to the skin. The MD Needle Pen® is then applied, allowing the growth factors to penetrate the deeper levels of tissue below the surface of the skin. As the skin heals, PRP supports the development of fresher, more youthful-looking skin.
What to Expect During Microneedling
Prior to treatment, patients undergo a consultation with our aesthetician to ensure microneedling is the right choice for achieving the look they desire. After a thorough examination of the skin and a discussion of goals, the aesthetician develops a customized microneedling treatment plan designed to effectively address specific skin concerns. She determines the depth, intensity, and frequency of treatment sessions, as well as the inclusion of specialized topicals, required to achieve optimal skin rejuvenating results.
Before microneedling begins, numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to desensitize the skin. Once the skin is numb, the cream is removed and the topical solution is placed on a small portion of the skin. She then glides over the area with the MD Needle Pen® several times to ensure thorough treatment and solution absorption. Next, she moves on to a new area and repeats the process until the entire region is complete. Treatment sessions usually take approximately 45 minutes; however, times can vary depending on the size of the area being treated. Patients typically report little to no discomfort during microneedling.
The exact nature of the healing process after microneedling typically depends upon the depth and intensity of treatment. Patients can expect to experience some degree of skin redness, similar to a sunburn, for one to three days. Redness is typically followed by a period of dryness and slight peeling. The first phase of skin renewal is usually visible within two to four weeks, and then, over a period of three months, the effects generally continue to improve as the skin produces new collagen and elastin. For optimal results, our aesthetician will likely recommend multiple treatment sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each session should reveal notable improvements in the condition and appearance of the skin. At the end of treatment, the majority of patients are impressed by the smooth, youthful results they are able to achieve with microneedling, and some choose to combine treatment with injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and various dermal fillers to further enhance their new look.
